ABSTRACT

In this chapter we focus on an international virtual exchange (VE) between university student groups in Argentina, Poland, and Sweden. During six weeks, the participants collaborated in cross-cultural teams to create digital campaigns promoting sustainability actions. Through a multiliteracies lens, our chapter examines students’ self-reported data regarding ways in which VE fostered global awareness and internationalization at home. We revealed that online collaboration anchored in real-world issues provided a dynamic space not only for constructing and reassessing knowledge from glocal perspectives but also for reflecting critically on the use of digital tools and how to make meaning in online cross-cultural dialogue beyond verbal language. The chapter contributes to the conversation on virtual exchange as a means to internationalize the curriculum earlier discussed.
