ABSTRACT

In this chapter we present the development of an action research project focusing on a transnational video-exchange project between students in Japan, China, and Spain. In many EFL settings, learners have little opportunity to use English outside the classroom, which makes it difficult for them to achieve the goal of becoming communicatively competent in English. The project attempts to find a way to ameliorate this through a virtual exchange (VE) of student-produced videos focused on students’ culture. EFL learners provided written feedback to their peers, which was used to improve the videos. Pre- and post-project surveys were administered to ascertain students’ attitudes toward other cultures. Results of surveys indicate that, in general, engaging in this project had a positive effect on students’ attitudes towards the other countries participating in the project.
