ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a discussion of the mobility experiences of international students in China to inform a more elaborated and contextualized understanding of the ground realities and actual outcomes of the internationalization of higher education. It reports the findings of a longitudinal research project investigating the mobility and socialization experiences of international students in China, focusing on their identity construction, social network (trans)formation, and language and literacy socialization. The findings offer empirical insights into IHE implementation in the local Chinese context and lay the foundation for comparing international student mobility in different localities. Based on the empirical insights, the chapter concludes with implications to optimize international students’ mobility experiences.
