ABSTRACT

Often, gender justice assumes that existing identities are understood through fixed categories of men and women, which not only initiate male and female interests and dispositions, but also constitute gender subjectivity in terms of which political representation is constructed. Globalisation has increased the ability of the plutocracy to buy political influence and thereby further increase the concentration of economic power. The Freedom Charter's greatest achievement has been to establish a framework for the defence of basic human rights and freedoms. It has been a defence of common rights and freedoms against private property and individual rights. Globalisation has increased the ability of the plutocracy to buy political influence and thereby further increase the concentration of economic power. Powerful forms of the new global solidarity will have to weave at least two strands together: the existential urge for survival and security, and a palpable image of the new global, political, social and economic order.
