ABSTRACT

The topic of privacy in social media has become very important in the digital world. Privacy in social media refers to the ability of individuals to control who has access to their personal information and how that information is used. Social media platforms allow users to share personal information, and this information can also be accessed by third parties, who can use it for various purposes, such as targeted advertising, identity theft or cyberbullying. Education and an increase in awareness are needed to protect users’ privacy in social media. Also, more research in this area will help develop our knowledge about online privacy. The chapter aims to present research directions that can be identified in the context of privacy in social media. The authors identified and described five main research directions, including privacy policies of social media, privacy violation reporting procedures, user controls over their privacy, encryption of data and artificial intelligence as a privacy protector.
