ABSTRACT
Scholars have noted numerous barriers in identifying and serving students from marginalized populations. The presence of underachievement further exacerbates these barriers. This chapter provides an overview of underachievement in culturally, linguistically, economically, and geographically diverse populations. It also examines ways to foster a thriving learning environment for this group of students and discusses the importance of essential gifted pedagogy to address these students’ needs.
