ABSTRACT

Not so long ago, during Summer 2020, we were all grappling with the necessary retrofitting and recalibration of our urban landscapes to curb the spread of COVID-19. This was soon compounded by civil unrest in the USA in cities such as Minneapolis, Atlanta, Seattle, Portland. An insidious racial injustice exposed itself, an ominous addition to the pandemic crisis – anecdotally termed by some as the ‘second pandemic’, which became more ominous and complex as the summer progressed.
