ABSTRACT

This learning resource provides a deep dive into two interconnected concepts: creative placehealing and culture futurism, focusing on the practical application of these theories in real-world contexts. It has been designed with the following reader learning goals in mind:

Understand and articulate the concepts of creative placehealing and culture futurism: by the end of this resource, the reader should be able to define these terms, understand their theoretical underpinnings, and appreciate their significance in contemporary community development and population health discourse.

Analyze the role of leadership in creative placehealing and culture futurism: the reader should be able to distinguish between different types of leadership – exploratory, combinatory, and transformational – and understand how these leadership types can drive initiatives that promote creative placehealing and culture futurism.

Apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios: using (Un)Known Project as a case study, the reader will learn how theory translates into practice. They will examine how creative placehealing and culture futurism were applied to promote communal healing and reconciliation in the context of systemic racism and the legacy of enslavement.

Develop a practical approach to community development and health promotion: through the MOTIF model, the reader will learn a step-by-step process to guide the design and implementation of culture-centered health promotion initiatives in their communities.

Reflect on their role as future practitioners or leaders: the reader will be encouraged to think critically about their role and responsibility in promoting health equity, social justice, and cultural wellbeing in their communities.
