ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses the diplomatic relationship between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the Republic of Kosovo. The relationship is viewed through the prism of British policy and is divided into four parts. The first part presents a short history of British interests in Kosovo (1981–1999). Therefore, this part focuses on ways, capacity and the extent of British involvement in this matter. The gradual increase of the British involvement in the Western Balkans, which culminated with the military international intervention in 1999, is analysed in the second part (1999–2001). The third part (2001–2008) presents the British after-war efforts shown in democracy building process in Kosovo. The close bilateral relations, established after the independence of Kosovo in 2008, are the subject of the fourth part (2008–2022). The role of the British government, played within the European Union (EU), is discussed. The post-Brexit changes in this bilateral relationship are also underlined and analysed. This study is based on documents, as primary sources, that are available in The National Archives (TNA) in London, and secondary sources, such as books, scientific articles, magazines and online sources.
