ABSTRACT
This chapter delves into the field of legal anthropology, emphasising its significance and importance in understanding the normative universe. It highlights the elusive, yet inescapable nature of law, shedding light on its enigmatic origins and functioning. As it will be shown, by revealing the underlying human narratives and beliefs that shape legal systems, legal anthropology contributes substantially to the methodology of comparative law. This interdisciplinary approach provides valuable insights, offering a deeper understanding of norms and their cultural foundations at both national and transnational levels. More specifically, by exploring the possibilities of legal anthropology as a framework for developing comparative law, this chapter addresses the research questions of what can be learned from anthropological insights and the commonalities and divisions between the two disciplines.
