ABSTRACT

We are vividly immersed in a digital life in which truths and beliefs often crumble to the point of blurring, to the point of nullifying the thoughtful self. This gives rise to a number of consequences: homologation, a loss of identity, the interchangeability of values and the impossibility of freedom. It is difficult to solve this problem, especially for the “fragile” world of education. How should these effects be interpreted? Who can we ask for help? Without aiming to provide definitive answers and seeking only to point at something tangible that could be defined as a stimulus to critical thinking, this chapter adopts the approach of the mythical Platonic cave to proceed down the arduous yet hopefully edifying pathway of the paideia of effort.
