ABSTRACT

Starting from the Italian legislation on teaching civic education, the chapter addresses the essential contribution that schools make to instilling the fundamental principles of the Constitution, not only in presenting their content but also because classroom dynamics provide an opportunity for experiencing these principles in practice. This “dual channel” is decisive in shaping future citizens’ democratic consciousness and capacity for critical judgement (Mosconi, 2021; Poggi, 2021; Sobrino, 2022).
