ABSTRACT
This chapter takes a historical overview of women's participation in electoral politics and in other forms of democratic politics in Maharashtra. It brings out the vibrant presence of women in non-party democratic politics. It argues that the trend of separating non-party democratic politics from electoral politics has had negative implications for women's political representation. The chapter brings out the need to strengthen women in political parties.
