ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the way horror podcasts, particularly The Magnus Archives, work with and subvert familiar Gothic elements and storytelling devices. The stories recombine these aspects by, for example, attaching the familiar ‘special gift’ to (nonetheless) marginalised characters, and centring a gay love story which, by focussing on typical Gothic plot elements, sidelines or overwrites limiting plotlines often assigned to queer characters. This chapter provides insight into how contemporary Queer and Media Studies intersect with Gothic Studies, perhaps even slowly forming their own subset of the scholarly tradition.
