By employing new Chinese language sources revealed only over the last dozen years, many of them written by generals who served Mao during the Korean War, this essay sheds extraordinary new light on how China's wartime policy was set, and military objectives established and executed by one of the most closed and secretive regimes in history. Almost everything in the chapter will come as a revelation to Western readers.
