ABSTRACT

In today's universally interconnected world, learning can occur anytime and at any place. Technology afforded educators to provide flexible learning experiences whenever learners are ready. The networked environment offers ample information and abundant knowledge. Knowledge transfer is no longer a fixed process but somewhat divergent and non-linear. Poststructural philosophers Deleuze and Guattari introduced the concept of the rhizome, and Cormier's notion of rhizomatic learning allows educators to explore the process of learning with the rhizomatic lens. Rhizomatic learning posits that learning is a continuous, dynamic process, making connections, using multiple paths, without beginnings, and ending in a nomadic style. This chapter provides an overview of the concepts and ideas presented in the following chapters and synthesizes the approaches and methods shared by the various authors in this volume.
