ABSTRACT
This chapter aims to make sense of certain events that challenge our capacity for comprehension, namely, Putin’s vicious attacks on Ukraine. Due to the extreme destruction he has directed at millions of people, it behooves us to try to fathom the foundations of such horrors. Understanding thereby achieved may help us to lessen the likelihood of future repetitions of these nightmares. To that end, powerful ideas (psychic dissociation, Adverse Childhood Experiences, developmental trauma, schizoid personality structure) are brought to bear on these tragic, recurring happenings, all in the effort to shed much-needed light on them.
