ABSTRACT

Positive Psychology Interventions (PPIs) and Lifestyle Medicine Interventions (LMIs) are established tools for improving wellbeing and reducing the risk of non-communicable diseases, respectively. This chapter explores alternative Positive Health Interventions (PHIs), the objective of which is to provide evidence-based tools for enhancing psychological flourishing (e.g. positive affect, meaning) and improving physiological markers (e.g. decreasing heart rate, cortisol). We explore the ways in which PPIs and LMIs can be combined to improve health and wellbeing and highlight some of the challenges of combining them that are emerging from research. Finally, we explore the mechanisms for enhancing the effectiveness of PHIs and examine how they differ from existing PPIs and LMIs.
