ABSTRACT

Health risk factors and positive health assets are important determinants of health at the population level. Character strengths, which are positive and morally valued personality traits that enhance well-being and protect against adversities, constitute an important element of positive health assets. Researchers have uncovered 24 character strengths, which outline a character profile of a person. They have been shown to play a favorable role in improving flourishing, alleviating the burden of diseases, mental health prevention, and positive work outcomes. Emerging evidence also suggests that optimal use of character strengths positively contributes to health and well-being, while their overuse or underuse can be harmful.
