ABSTRACT

Over the years, negative emotions have been discussed as essential for survival. This chapter will explore positive emotions as critical components of positive health. First, from psychological and physiological perspectives, Fredrickson’s Broaden and Build theory of positive emotions will be explored. Then, positivity resonance will be examined from a range of physiological processes. First, neuropsychological outcomes, followed by heart rate variability, vagal nerve and neurochemical synchronicity. Finally, the applications of positive emotions in the context of the body will be explored. This includes the role of positive emotions in physical and mental health.
