ABSTRACT

This chapter conjures up a workshop that Roseanne Chantiluke delivered at secondary school in London in 2021. The chapter maps how Roseanne and the workshop participants critically dug into the root of the French word ‘entreprendre’ (‘to undertake’) as a means of reflecting on what grassroots activism and leadership can look like. The author structures the chapter around the key learnings of the workshop to reflect on how her formation in Modern Languages literally and metaphorically lies at the heart of her understanding of what entrepreneurship can do and mean, especially for her role as an Executive Director of a UK-based educational services company. The chapter calls for an expanded understanding of all that ‘entrepreneurship’ contains as a concept by reflecting on the cornerstones of Modern Languages Teaching (MLT) and what MLT can teach us about ‘undertaking’ complex relational work in different contexts.
