ABSTRACT
This chapter is the first step of an attempt to assess Wolfgang Giegerich’s impact on depth psychology. Its main objective is to present Wolfgang Giegerich’s essential psychological insight. This initial presentation, however, inevitably leads to a discussion of the difference between psychological insights and traditional theoretical insights and how the observance of this difference is crucial for genuine psychological work and understanding. Consequently, an understanding of Wolfgang Giegerich’s impact on the discipline requires a consideration of both the content of his essential insight and of the specific nature of psychological insights.
