ABSTRACT
Bion increasingly tried to elaborate on the distinction between cognitive listening and intuitive forms of evocation in both patient and analyst and also in participants in his seminars. He wrote less and taught more. His stretching of analysis led to the consideration that psychoanalysis is an aesthetic rather than a scientific one. He seemed to prioritise the interpretation of processes in the analytic setting over the reconstruction of symbolic meanings (as in Freud’s dream interpretation).
