ABSTRACT
Bion’s later entry into psychoanalysis built on his group experiences gained in the trauma of WW1 and in military psychiatry in WW2. After analysis with Melanie Klein (from 1945), he became a loyal supporter, developing her ideas on early infant development (the paranoid-schizoid position). Much of his clinical work consisted of a close and intuitive listening to the patient’s non-verbal communications.
