ABSTRACT
From his medical training (around 1930), Bion’s persistent emphasis was on listening to the patient and learning the patient’s constructions of his own experiences. His own experience in both world wars drew his attention to group dynamics, which he explored in extremely close detail before qualifying as a psychoanalyst in 1950 and then devoting a period to research of cases of acute psychosis.
