ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic saw a shift from office to remote work for millions of employees. This research explores the impact that physical distancing had on Millennial employees using a transactional distancing framework originally developed for online learning. Millennials were found to use three sensemaking dimensions – socialization, enactment, and identity building – that enabled them to adopt new behaviours and increase performance. However, this poses a great challenge to companies post-pandemic as employees return to the office, with subsequent company investment in changing management to maintain the positive aspects of working from home post-pandemic.
