ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the implications of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine for international law in an age of propaganda and advanced technology. Noting that Russia wrongly asserts that international law is on its side, the author contends that “my international law” has become a weapon against “your international law”. As a result of the weaponisation of international law’s vocabulary, the truth becomes obscured. The author questions if the sanctions implemented against Russia are effective and universally understood. He closes by speculating as to whether a romanticisation of a new international law could result from the Ukraine conflict.
