ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how engaging in improvement science holds the potential for enacting successful leadership practices (Hitt & Tucker, 2018; Leithwood, 2012) linked to school improvement (Louis et al., 2004; Grissom et al., 2021). The implementation of systematic approaches to quality improvement and the core principles of improvement science can support the development of many of the leadership practices that research has identified as important for cultivating student success and school improvement (Bryk et al., 2015). As Lewis and Diamond (2015) highlight, educators know a lot about what to change in schools, but they are lacking how to implement such changes. Improvement science holds the potential to inform what we know about leadership with how we improve schools.
