ABSTRACT

Drawing on an interdisciplinary perspective, this chapter explores podcasting as a methodological tool for researching the spatial and social dimensions of makerspaces. Makerspace is a creative space typology where makers refine their design and manufacturing skills in well-equipped facilities. This chapter presents producing semi-structured interviews with makers in the form of podcasts to integrate academic and everyday knowledge in an engaging and accessible way. These interviews were published under the Anylabtalks Podcast, hosted by the author since 2019. Podcasting is viewed not only as a communication tool but also as a method of qualitative data collection and critical inquiry. By transforming interviews into podcasts, this chapter explores the potential of podcasting as a methodological tool to enhance research practices and reach diverse audiences. It also examines the relationship between interviewing as a research method and the overall research process, critically evaluating podcasting in academia and as a form of produsage while addressing ethical considerations. The hope is to foster collaboration among researchers, participants, and audiences from both the public and academia. Ultimately, podcasting emerges as a potential methodological tool for exploring the world of creative communities.
