ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors use collaborative analytic autoethnography to make sense of the ways they engage with the content and contexts of Hallmark Christmas movies. Authors explore the contexts surrounding the films as well as the emotionalities they embody as they watch movies within the Hallmark Movie Universe (HMU). Critical theory and popular media are used to process personal reflection, literature, and the socio-political contexts of the project. The authors seek to understand why they continue to watch these films, year after year, despite personal and professional commitments to racial justice, critical media literacy, and intersectional feminisms.
