ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses Justina Ireland’s 2018 novel, Dread Nation, which imagines an alternate history of the United States wherein soldiers who died in the Civil War are reanimated as zombies after the Battle of Gettysburg. This chapter also suggests intersectionality should be used to read Ireland’s novel, and it offers lessons and activities for teaching Dread Nation.
