ABSTRACT

Written from the position of a formerly incarcerated woman, Ginny shares her experiences that led to incarceration and the reentry practices that broke the vicious cycle of recidivism and contributed to her personal empowerment, total transformation, and continuing redemption. She demonstrates access to a robust community of currently and formerly incarcerated people, and allies have supported her to become a visible scholar and advocate. Ginny encourages currently and formerly incarcerated people and allies to be engaged with education and transformative programming and provides examples of how she has chosen to do this with her advocacy work and research. Ginny invites readers to challenge commonly held perceptions, stereotypes, and stigmas people may hold about currently and formerly incarcerated people and suggests that personal transformation may be the foundation for a more total and effective transformation of the carceral system.
