ABSTRACT

Despite Argentina passing the gay marriage law in 2010, LGBTIQ+ people continue to face juridical obstacles to becoming parents. Diverse Families association (FAD) was created to fight for their rights. Even though families have been for years at the core of political mobilization, their presence in the public arena used to be taken for granted. LGBTQ+ family-based activism is different. Its political motivation to be is not because of one relative’s tragic death. Social movements theories offer an entire vocabulary of terms to understand political actions. Protests are actions developed to change the sociopolitical environment. This chapter scrutinizes three aspects of the politics of visibility FAD develops when creating this multi-family album. It describes the types of families this album portrays: age and social backgrounds, how many parents and their gender and sexual orientation and the number of children.
