ABSTRACT

Cultural objects like celebrity and music are increasingly being understood as part of intertextual transmedia landscapes and are a conduit of access for the public to engage with social issues. This chapter focuses on the online aesthetics and practices of bisexual+ women, who often face challenges in finding acceptance and validation within queer communities and have historically faced erasure and marginalization within both heterosexual and queer communities. Music videos, especially as they circulate on TikTok, offer a window of understanding into the aesthetic worlds of young bisexual+ women, and, in doing so, they perform discursive work toward reshaping public ideas about women who identify as bisexual+. The domestic worlds of women are brought online on platforms like TikTok, with the bedroom being a particularly common backdrop in TikTok videos.
