ABSTRACT

Society in Bangladesh does not recognize, understand, or acknowledge LGBTQ populations. In Bangladesh as well as in South Asia, this transgender community is referred to as the third gender. Several organizations work for awareness building in the country in order to establish the rights of Bangladeshi LGBTQ populations. After the introduction of ‘Gay Bangladesh’, there was a kind of a shake-up in the social system of Bangladesh, and over time its membership has increased. The current state of queer rights in Bangladesh is precarious. The challenges LGBTQ people facing in Bangladesh include discrimination, bullying, alienation, depression, and physical and sexual violence. Stories of sexual abuse and harassment are frequent among gay, bisexual men and transgender women.
