ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a wide examination of the current trends in terms of Asia’s heritage research to aid in the discussions of the Mega Asia project of whether Asia can be seen as one unit or fractional units, as well as to assess whether it is possible for Asians to define their own region. Carter and Stark write that it is hoped that focusing on the everyday people of Angkor and archaeology of occupation areas will facilitate continued engagement between the Cambodians and their heritage. O'Reilly and Shewan provided a comprehensive historical and archaeological survey on the selected sites. Although the foundation of archaeological surveys and research of this site were set by non-Lao archaeologists since the nineteenth century, in 2015, the Australian Research Council has funded the Lao-Australian team to develop a collaborative program of research to learn more about the mysterious megalithic sites and the ancient culture that created them.
