ABSTRACT

In Chapter 11 the authors discuss how psychotherapy is compromised by its alliance with modern science and, in turn, its ‘scientific’ assumptions. Using Sheldrake’s arguments challenging the dogmas of conventional science as a framework, the authors elaborate the challenge that Rogers’ ideas pose to mainstream psychological science. In this chapter, the authors take a similar, critical perspective as they elaborate challenges to the practitioners of that ‘science’, i.e., the therapists themselves.
