ABSTRACT

This chapter provides interesting interviews with a variety of people. A leading Assamese film and television actor begins with her story followed by a veterinarian who also happens to be an accomplished Bihu artist and an ethnomusicologist. A high school teacher from the Mizo community describes how she feels a sense of community through her engagement in folk dance, and a lecturer in education and training also from the Mizo community follows with his story. This is followed by the accounts of two separate farmers and folk dance practitioners. A social worker and dancer discusses his journey, and to finish, a young woman from the Reang community who is currently studying for a Master's degree in history, provides an insight into her life in dance. Much can be learned through stories, and this chapter provides an interesting insight into the lives of a variety of dancers from Assam.
