ABSTRACT
This chapter begins with the story of an artist who was offered to a Sattra as a young child. He describes his devotion to dance and how the Sattra played a role in his formative years. The following voice is that of a passionate Odissi dancer. A recognised vocalist and Sattriya Nritya artist who received the state's highest award in Bihu dancing speaks about hard work and dedication, a theme echoed by many of the other artists. All of the artists speak of being connected to their culture. Amongst the many artists’ voices in this chapter is a Kathak dancer who is also a popular actor in the Assamese film industry. The final voices are those of a popular dance duo.
