ABSTRACT

Presented as an intergenerational dialogue among three Black scholars, this chapter explores the home spaces each author has experienced within/alongside/underneath the academy. As the title riffs off of Gil Scott-Heron’s Home is where the hatred is, this chapter also holds space for pain, harm, and loss. Rather than an ableist fantasy of normativity, this conversation traces the authors’ journeys through insecurities and toward community. It is a spiritual meditation that invites love, laughter, joy, and harmony.
