ABSTRACT

It is close to a decade since the announcement of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road by President Xi Jinping in 2013. The paper is a study on China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in Southeast Asia, which given its geography as well as the economic opportunities makes it crucial. The paper outlines the projects under the BRI in Southeast Asia while also examining some concerns that challenge the utility of the initiative.
