ABSTRACT

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a signature project of President Xi Jinping. It has positioned China at the centre of the international system, with its physical, financial, cultural, technological, and political influence flowing to the rest of the world. It is trying to redrawing the world’s map, with new railroads and bridges, fibre-optic cables and 5G networks, and ports. Bangladesh joined the BRI in 2016. Bangladesh has very cautiously moved with the BRI. Unlike other countries in South Asia like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh has not fallen into the debt trap with China. The paper aims to analyse the growing China-Bangladesh ties under the rubric of the BRI. As a part of the strengthening of the relations, China has initiated various projects in Bangladesh. The chapter explores the status of the project and its dynamics.
