ABSTRACT

LGBTQ+ intimate partner violence victims experience unique circumstances and issues. Historically, this group has not been given as much focus as heterosexual cisgender individuals in the literature. This chapter will explore the prevalence of IPV within the LGBTQ+ community. A discussion regarding the unique needs and challenges that LGBTQ+ victims face will be provided, as well as a presentation of the needs of LGBTQ+ victims and what can be done to support this at-risk group. This chapter will address LGBTQ+ victims’ experiences with minority stress and issues when reporting IPV to police, medical professionals, and/or formal IPV service providers.
