ABSTRACT

Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) is the second most disaster-prone region in the world with a population of 152 million affected by 1205 disasters between 2000 and 2019. The individual national governments are unable to come up with systemic solutions to prevent and prepare for disasters due to limited funds, and the involvement of international emergency mechanisms is a necessity. Due to its relevance, the aforementioned subject constitutes a very interesting issue requiring scientific research with respect to its regulation, factual use, and trends.
