ABSTRACT

Industry 5.0, the latest phase of industrialization, has focused on the interaction of machines and human potential. Along with technology, machine, and artificial intelligence, it emphasized human interaction with the machine or exploring the balance of human potential and machine. Human potential and automation processes may bring mass production and may speed up the services in the medical sector and other service industries. Industry 5.0 superseded Industry 4.0, which prioritized the process of automation and minimized human involvement. Industry 5.0 also emphasized green technologies to promote sustainability. It may be challenging for developing countries that are not fully equipped with Industry 4.0. India’s industrialization is in the phase of digitalization and building infrastructure. There is also a disparity in the process of economic development and human development in India. Digital technology has been working for transformation in production and consumption. Major problems of India’s industrialization are rural–urban disparity, a gap between rich–poor, low education of the masses, and so on. Industries launched digital systems, establishments, and services, but these have failed to reach every section of people. This chapter has examined how Industry 5.0 as a global phenomenon unevenly affected different societies. It is analyzed whether Indian society can adopt Industry 5.0. This chapter made an effort to contribute to the sociological study of India’s workforce in the framework of Industry 5.0.
