ABSTRACT

This chapter examines personal transformations, including moving across different places, using various languages, and diversifying knowledge disciplines. It explores how these transitions impact professional development and identity formation. The chapter employs the autoethnographic methodology which involves developing a personal story as case data for analysis and discussion. This interesting methodology combines human aspects and empirical research to provide scientific results directly and indirectly. The chapter investigates the central role of transitioning across places. It stresses the importance of interpersonal capabilities in shaping the resilience necessary to overcome the challenges associated with transitional conditions. It also explores how these difficulties can be transformed into opportunities. Furthermore, the chapter explores two additional essential elements: the acquisition of new languages along with the associated knowledge and experiences, and the diversification of disciplines. This can be achieved through creating research cooperation networks or exploring new fields.
