ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on providing four critical meanings of the ‘academic professionalism’ concept, and conceptualizes, based on self-reflections, the key factors for the continuity and advancement of academic professionalism in higher education. The author's self-reflections are critically valuable for international academics who will directly benefit from such insights for facing (un)expected challenges while exerting their own selves to continue to advance their academic professionalism. Further, these reflections also are of high significance for university leaders and decision-making academics who need to rethink how to re-develop the policies and implementation measures in a fair way that helps in the development of their academics’ professional identities. In conclusion, facing challenges in a reasonable manner is professionalism in itself.
