ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the reader to resources specifically developed for primary-aged pupils relating to online safety. The digital world continues to develop at a rapid pace, providing a range of new possibilities and ways of working. Therefore, online safety continues to be a focus for teachers’ work in schools. UK government guidance makes it clear that teachers have a responsibility to ensure that pupils are safe online. All staff need to understand the role that technology plays in many safeguarding and wellbeing issues and need appropriate training to ensure that they are able to identify risks; and know a range of strategies to keep children safe. Schools in England also have a statutory duty to teach pupils how to navigate the digital world.
