ABSTRACT

Digital technologies can and should contribute to and be a part of the art curriculum and teachers need to understand how these technologies have some unique qualities of their own to enhance and transform the art curriculum. This chapter considers how the available digital tools, apps and sites can support the making and viewing of art and, can also be a process and technique of their own, standing alongside drawing, painting, collage, sculpture and textiles. Going further, the chapter notes the potential for digital technologies to harness creativity, including collaboration within and beyond the classroom and further cross-cultural understanding. This chapter will provide teachers with an introduction and some practical guidance to incorporate digital technologies into their art curriculum both in making and responding to art. The chapter explores some art made by artists who use digital technologies in their art making.
