ABSTRACT

This chapter will focus on memory activation and the subsequent use of specific recollections to guide writing and art-making. Throughout the chapter, there will be examples of remembrances serving as a jumping-off point that leads to revisiting places from past experiences. The strategies, activities, and methods utilized throughout the text aim to guide educators in designing lessons that will help students dive into their past, both recent and distant. It is the author’s belief that memories coupled with writing, open-ended art-making, and travel to specific places tied to recollections can serve as a valuable method for self-exploration. The teacher educators that were the subject of this author’s class report feeling grateful for the opportunity to think about themselves and ready to incorporate more introspective and personalized learning opportunities in their classrooms.
